Interim Management

Interim management is increasingly used in the not-for-profit sector as a way of providing leadership, direction and clarity in a period of transition. There may be a need to re-think structures before a new manager is appointed; to provide a period of reflection and stability after major changes; or simply to bridge a gap in the recruitment process. The interim manager, working part-time, ensures that normal working procedures are maintained and staff supported, while acting as consultant to the senior management or Board of Trustees on resolving any outstanding difficulties.

Ruth Valentine has considerable experience as an interim manager, in small organisations and to projects within larger structures.

The Chief Executive of one agency writes: "We asked Ruth to be interim manager of our 'Choices' Team, which provides advice to refugees who are considering making one of the most difficult decisions - whether or not to voluntarily return to their home country. She approached this with great sensitivity and enthusiasm, and with great understanding of the needs of staff in transition. She also left us with some great ideas for improving the project."
